Ann Hang – Week 1

Bio: Hi, my name is Ann Hang and I work on the Product Growth team at a startup in San Francisco. I am attending this course for the summer in New York and am interested in learning more about user behavior and developing my skills in prototyping and animations.
Three things that I learned from reading the iOS Human interface guidelines:
- Siri App Integration: I think it’s really smart for Apple to start enabling Siri with more capabilities across a user’s entire phone (i.e. not just apple apps, but any app on their phone.) It is interesting from a developer perspective to be able to integrate siri with apps. Since our world is moving more towards performing actions via voice, photos, search etc., it would be interesting to see how Siri can be used for quicker commands into your app.
- I am still unsure as to when to help users learn how to navigate and use the app. The guidelines state to anticipate the need for help and proactively look for times when people might be stuck. Making sure to not break the flow of a user experience by showing tutorials is still something I am trying to figure out.
- I have never heard of content-driven or experience-driven navigation, but this makes a lot of sense to me because users should be able to move freely through content and the content itself should define the navigation. I would like to explore this less-structured navigation as I think apps will soon move away from a more structured navigation.
Audience I am building for:
My target audience are 23-45 year old Americans who have either basic or advanced cooking skills. This app will give them a quick, consumable cooking tip every day to slowly build their knowledge in basic cooking techniques and skills.
