Ann Hang – Week 4
User insights:
Users were confused about the “watch video” button. I received positive and negative(mostly negative) feedback on the “watch video” button on the first view. Users did not understand why there were two “watch video” buttons at the top and bottom of the view. I think when the images are put in place it would make more sense as to what every “video” option is. Even though users were a bit confused about this, I am going to continue the design as is because i think it would be beneficial to allow users to watch the video on the first view as well as when they scroll to the bottom
Users may not understand specific cooking terms. It slightly surprised me that some users didn’t understand some cooking terms I used in the content. This reminded me that I am designing for the most basic user as well. I don’t want to simplify the verbiage because I think it’s good for the user to understand what the word means since it’s widely used in cooking. Instead, I am going to add categories (i.e. technique, ingredient, flavor base etc.) to communicate that a mirepoix for example is not a technique, but a flavor base for a lot of recipes. I am also hoping that in v2 by adding the ability to specify your cooking level, you will be able to tailor the content to your expertise.
Users were very fascinated with the “explore” page. The main focus on the app is the “tip of the day,” which is shown on view 1. A lot of users feel the need to explore the “explore” view and see what other content was offered under this area. They initially scrolled, but I could tell they wanted a way to easily filter/sort through the content to cater to their interests. I didn’t spend a lot of time building out this part of the app so I want to enhance this experience a bit for my next iteration.
