Danielle Lee – Week 1
Born in San Diego and raised in Hong Kong, I moved to NYC in 2011 and received my BFA in Graphic Design from SVA in 2015. My background is in branding, packaging, print, and am taking this class to hone in more of my digital design skills. I’m very passionate about sustainability and strive to live a zero-waste lifestyle. I want to use design to help transition the world to a more circular economy. I also love the beach, biking, surfing, cooking and DJing when I can.
Learnings from the iOS Human Interface Guidelines:
Learned some interesting terms for things I’ve seen a lot but didn’t know the terminology for.
“Stepper”: A stepper is a two-segment control used to increase or decrease an incremental value. By default, one segment of a stepper displays a plus symbol and the other displays a minus symbol. These symbols can be replaced with custom images, if desired.
“Action sheet”: An action sheet is a specific style of alert that appears in response to a control or action, and presents a set of two or more choices related to the current context.
My App Concept – MealTime (working title)
My app concept is a meal planning app for those people who like to organize and plan their meals, are health-conscious, and keep track of what is in their inventory before it spoils. The app also integrates the organization, discovery, and suggestion of recipes tied in with the user’s current nutrition intake and inventory.

We chatted about this in class, but tabs on top and filters on bottom is definitely opposite normal iOS convention, so consider if that is the choice you want to make.
Is there a way to look at past days? Is there a way to mark a meal as cooked/eaten?
I’m a little unclear how entry of a meal/dish works. How can you make that as easy as possible? People often end up eating the same meals regularly? How can you suggest past meals/dishes/ingredients?
The popup for the editing/entering/going to a recipe feels not fully thought through. Right now that popup feels overloaded. That is core functionality, so it feels like like you should fully consider each part of that functionality and make it easy to do.
How can you also make it really easy to enter pantry items? Manually doing that will be possible, but what make it sustainable and easy?
