Sally’s Mobile UX Assignment #1
A wee story about me: I am a whimsical wanderer originally from North Carolina. I am fascinated by psychology and believe that humor is essential to a fulfilling and creative life. My new favorite karaoke song is Celine Dion’s “To love you more”.
Three things I did not know before reading the iOS Human Interface Guidelines:
1. Negative space can impart a sense of calm/tranquilidad and make the app look more focused and efficient. If I were to pick between two interfaces, one with ample negative space, and the other cramped and cluttered, I trust that I would choose the former. However, I would not immediately know why I did so. Also, we need chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.
2. A key color indicates interactivity. I will now think about colors with more of a purpose as opposed to simply for aesthetics.
3. I did not know that “Dynamic Type” was a feature the designer had to activate in order to have the app respond when the user chooses a different font size.
4. To manage a set or hierarch of views in your app, you use a view controller, which coordinates the displays of views, implements the functionality behind interactions, and manages transitions from one screen to another.
5. You should give tappable components a hit target of about 44×44 points.
6. You can use information people supply to built-in apps to inform yours.
7. You only need to give users enough information to get started.
8. Save user data as often as possible because apps in the background can be told to terminate at any time.
9. Don’t use Apple icons in your designs – they are copyrighted.
10. Aesthetic integrity doesn’t measure the beauty of an app’s artwork or characterize its style; rather, it represents how well an app’s appearance and behavior integrates with its function to send a coherent message.
Community Kitchen
Community Fridge helps 25-45 year-old New Yorkers track their food and share food at-risk of spoiling with community members. This will simultaneously improve personal food inventory (maximizing grocery purchases) and reduce food waste.

We spoke about this in class, but the biggest thing that you need to do is keep organizing your thoughts on your app map and your wires. You need to show the connections of your views in your app map, and you need to wire out the rest of your views.
Until you get that, it’s hard to really respond to your overall interactions. If you get that up today, email me a link, and I can try and send you a more detailed response.
