Jonathan – Week 1
Intro: Hi – I’m Jonathan and I work in product design at Dow Jones, the parent company of WSJ, Barron’s and Marketwatch. I focus mostly on design strategy and am looking to strengthen my technical skills. Outside of work, you can find me reading, running, or at a concert.
Learnings from iOS Human Interface Guidelines: 1) You can make animations optional via accessibility preferences. 2) You use an 8px-by-8px grid to design high-resolution artwork. There are so many visual components to learn!
App Concept: Help donut lovers find their next perfect donut.

We chatted about some things in class that are worth reemphasizing:
– What’s the fully journey of a user using this particular app? Why do they use this versus other generalized food searching apps (e.g. foursquare, yelp)? You’ve chosen a very niche concept, so try and fully contextualize its specificity.
– How often would your ideal user use the app?
– Your answers for these should influence your design and the structure of your app
– The idea of a featured donut instead of a donut shop came up and makes sense to me. Will that influence 3.0 My Donuts as well?
