Project Motivation: The idea comes from my personal experience. As a cook lover and recipes app user, I always face a issue: the existing recipes from other users are lack of logical and orderly organization.

Project Concept: In this project, I try to make an app which contain a recipe creating flow. By going through the flow I provide, users could easily come out a logical and orderly recipe.

Project Target Audience: This app is for the people who love making chocolate and chocolate dessert. It is for people who like to create and record their cooking steps. It is also for those people who would like to share and exchange their own cooking experience with others.

Feedback for the app map and wireframe version 1: The main feedback I get from the 1th version is about the template sentence. In this prototype, people have to keep choose which template sentence to use. That actually wastes a lot of time and losses the fun of text editing. Instead of selecting template sentences, a clear and concise flow could be more help them to organize their cooking steps.

And then, I come out my second version of app map and wireframe.

My second version of app map

AppMapVersion3-03

In this version, I make more detail about how this app work. The recipe creating flow is based on the different verbs in the process of cooking, for example “Wash”, “Cut”,”Melt” and so on. According those verbs, users could generate their own STEPS. This could help they organize the detail directions in different steps.

Here is my digital prototype.

Feedback from digital prototype:

1. As a iphone app, each page of my app provide users too many function and options. I need to simplify the functions and buttons.

2. The “Preview”, ‘Add More’,”Next” button make people confused. Sometimes, users don’t need those functions, so they shouldn’t appear.

3. The “Create New Recipe” page should belong to be part of the flow. When they edit a recipe, they should have the possibility to go back and change the name and descriptions.

Prototype#3 in Flinto

In the first two versions, there were two main problems that I worked hard but did find effective solutions. How to shorten the time and save energy of ingredient information in-put? it’s maybe significant to solve the essential pain points. Two new founds actually inspired me to reconsider the whole process.

1.Countertop&Prep Pad
Countertop is an app to measure the calories of food by using a bluetooth-connected scale called Prep Pad. Every time when user put food on the scale, the information will automatically be transferred to the app. So the user can manage the calories input easily through a dynamic visualization.
2.Cloudsigh
Cloudsight is an api that helps to recognize images.
So my idea is to combine the two functions: users put food on a scale at the same time focusing the camera to the food, then the weight and food information will be displayed at the same time.

Changes for third version
1.Reconsider the hierarchy, change it into four main functions
2.Simplify ingredients in-put to “put on the scale, select ingredient”
3.Instead of listing every certain ingredients, I change the inventory into just displaying the class of ingredients
4.Change the hamburger menu into a circle icon on the left top

Update on final prototype Mar 27, 2015

-Reconsidered the first screen when first-time users start using this app. Lead them to add their ingredients before browsing the recipes.
-Changed the “Add new ingredient” as a part of Inventory interface.
-Rearranged the inventory to alphabetic way.
-Added a “taking photo” screen with black background before entering the “Add New Ingredient”, making this function more clear and the polished banana image less confusing.
– Designed a logo for the app. Change the menu icon of “Preference set” screen to it, differentiating with the icon of Landscape Mode.
-In the screen of recipe: changed the position of Save button and Landscape Mode to the right bottom of the food picture.changed “try it” at the bottom to “landscape mode”, add “try the landscape mode” at the position of direction.

Food Solo – Midterm App Project *—–* Jackie

“Food Solo” Design concept:

1. Food solo is a little mobile app, based on the food you are eating each day or the food you like. For example , The sound of biting chips and the sound of pouring coffee. In the app, each food elements will have their own rhythms. You can design your own music using which food melody you like. I’ve created this pocket-version for iOS devices in a few days to experiment with GameSalad, a framework for mobile games.

2. In Food Solo” App.  Now you can feel like a DJ using abstract food sound! Visually mix rhythms and melodies together like a pro. Mashup various music styles, whilst staying in sync…

3. Through user test and feedback from last week. I changed the slide menu bar to the left top. And enrich a design page which can visually control your sound and mix style of it.
