Visual Design Prototype 4

From the user testing, I realized that the directions were still unclear for my purpose. To change this, I played around with iconography and incorporated Google map directions in text form. The user can also go back to view the map on the upper right corner if desired.

The new map will display the directions one by one, and as the user reaches the goal, it will turn a different color. The directions will keep scrolling up until the user has reached the destination. The microphone icon I had before seem to confuse people (they thought its function was to speak into the phone), so I changed it to a Speaker.

  1. Hi Tong, I love your design. It is simple and clean, matching your criteria and your user scenario a lot.
    1. Photo content. Your app is very clear and simple, but there is still one thing not very clear to me. When the users are swiping, are they choosing the food or the restaurant? Are they like”wow this spaghetti looks cool, I want to know where to find it” or “This place looks nice, what else do they serve?” This will lead to the problem that when the users are swiping, there may be several different food pictures that actually belong to one restaurant, or there are several similar foods(let’s say spaghetti) that belong to different restaurants. And there is another question that how do you choose the one picture for the restaurant that will represent it because normally one restaurant will not have only one feature dish. One simple solution you may try out is to allow users check several photos when they check the detail information of that restaurant.
    2. Also, I think you can try to increase the spacing between lines for the detail information part. A not very consistent part is that you have “hours:” before the opening hours but no “Address:” before the restaurant address. I think it is ok to get rid of “Hours:” You can test that with your users.
    3. Branding color. I think green is your branding color. But the color pattern you use for the like button does not match with the green you use in the directions view.
    4. Map and directions. I like how you iterate for this part. It is much clearer now. Sometimes, the direction like “head down to 78th street” is not very clear to me, so I will tap on the map. So maybe you can try to combine the step by step direction with the map.
    5. Great job overall!! Can’t wait to see your presentation!
