Week2(Feb,23)

App Map:

Wireframes:

This week, I refined the concept. Based on my research on recipe apps, I found out that there are not many of them focusing on the experience of checking when following the recipes. So I decided to focus this part.

I got rid of the editorial feature of the former idea, making it a lighter app. I also added the START COOKING function.

Food Picker – Final Iteration

What I changed in the final iteration:

  • Randomly generate 3 options for the user. But the user can only view one option each time. If the users dislike one restaurant, they can’t go back to that option again.
  • Redesign the filter interface. Reorganize the type of cuisine options.
  • Reorganize the restaurant detailed page. I only keep the information that is useful for the user.

Thursday App – Jieming Yu

Description

Discover Voodoo’s new game: Paper.io.
Your goal? To conquer as much territory as possible. It’s initially very simple, and the game can be mastered immediately, but watch out: there’s competition, and not everyone can win!
Whether you’re bold or more careful, you have to be more cunning than your adversaries by finding the best strategy to conquer the most space. But be careful! You have a weak spot: your tail. If an enemy touches it, that’s the end for you.
Try to stay ahead, because victory in Paper.io is never certain until you possess all the territory. Stealing is allowed, and your enemies won’t hesitate to do so.
After the success of Quiz Run, 1 Pic 8 Words, and Bool, Voodoo now offers you a new gaming and graphics experience inspired by io type games (made popular by agar.io). Enjoy the simplicity and strategy of an io game in a world with unique graphics.
Paper.io is for the whole family and doesn’t require an Internet connection.

The reason I like Paper.io

First of all, I like the mechanics of this game. It is easy to understand but no easy to master. You can easily understand the rule when you playing it for the first time. But it takes a lot of time to master this game. This is a good feature of the mechanics. Also the illustration style is elegant. I like the color combination of the square.

Final Prototype for 3/9: Food Diary

After user testing and feedback from last class, I added more icons to make it more clear to users that which part they can edit on the editing post view.

I also altered the ways that how to go through pictures on “my diaries” view, so that it is consistent to the main discovery view and users won’t get confused.

In order to make it easier to find certain dish on the diaries view, I also added a different way to display all the pictures by switching the icon on the right up corner.

Here is all the screenshots of my app:

Project 1 Final Iteration

Final Presentation: zhant293_mobilemedia_proj1

Marvel prototype: zhant293_project1_digitalprototype

Design challenges/criteria:

  1. Simple and intuitive
  2. Quick access to foods
  3. Minimize text
  4. Reinforcing/Repetition
  5. Easy to navigate through maps/directions

Things I’ve changed:

  1. First view that user will see upon tapping on a restaurant is the map view of his/her current location. This was done because it would be easier to locate directions and orientations for the user.
  2. The map is now using a 3D view rather than 2D, again, this was done so the user could look at the map and feel that it is closer to reality.
  3. Instructions now are accessed only through the “Text” button on the top right corner. This was done to diminish the amount of text on the screen.

#thursdayplay Milkmaid of the Milky Way

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a classic puzzle adventure game by solo developer Mattis Folkstead created with Unity. The story is very interesting. In the game, you are playing Ruth, a young woman living alone on a remote farm in a faraway fjord in 1920’s Norway, trying to save her cows from aliens. All the dialogue is written in rhyme, and the story has a certain melancholy to the whole affair, about time passing and losing loved ones.

The scenes in this game is beautiful. It’s a curious mixture between low-resolution, old-school pixel art, but with some surprisingly detailed backgrounds and scenery. To solve the puzzles, you need to explore all the scenes, tap on different characters and listen to their stories, and collect key items to help you go through certain area.

The soundtrack is also amazing. They fit with the story and change constantly when the story goes on. Playing through the whole story took me about two hours, and it was an amazing experience. I would recommend it to anyone who loves adventure games and interested in sci-fi.
