Pancake Flipper

My application is called pancake flipper, and is a game centered around making fast, perfect pancakes. The user is able to try the tutorial, then choose between a time trial where they can see how many perfect pancakes they can make in 2 minutes, or they can try to see how many perfect pancakes they can make in a row. The way it works is that the user has to pour the batter onto the skillet by drawing on the pan, then they must flip the batter before it burns to cook both sides, and set the pancake aside so they can make room for more batter.

Below are the wireframes

  1. This is a super cute, fun little mini-game. Let’s try and make it as tight and fun as possible, when you present this for our crits later, I think you’ll want to frame it like that as well.

It should be possible to integrate the tutorial into normal game play. I’m also wondering if it’s worth having two different game play modes or if one really fun mode would be the best. I could be convinced here, but you’d have to really differentiate the two and make it worth it.

This is just a wireframe, but your buttons on your home page are very close together. Make sure and give the 44×44 necessary touchable areas. Depending on if you go to just one mode of play, you could even skip this page, gameplay could begin whenever a person starts drawing their first batter. Likewise the end screen could just be text or things that appear over the skillet, and when I start drawing, the game starts again.

I think you will want to think carefully about your words. “Flip” could mean that I actually turn over my phone. Maybe you use toss? Or maybe figuring out the details of it are part of the fun of the game. If so, make that a choice and play it up.

How could batter painting affect things? I wonder if a point system where complete pancakes contribute the most could be fun? Like points are constantly flying out at you for all kinds of things? Or you can keep it simple and if you don’t draw your batter quickly and well it burns and you lose.

Check out Game Center for leaderboards. You may also want to consider some achievements if we get everything else ironed out.

The integrated app map and wireframes generally works, but I wonder if there’s a more organized way that you could present them.

This will be fun to prototype! Let’s talk about that. Maybe you do it with a real skillet?
